A 57-year-old man has received a substantial prison sentence after being convicted of sexually assaulting a 10-year-old boy. Javier Arizmendi was handed a 54-year sentence by a judge on February 23, following a jury’s guilty verdict rendered on December 10. Arizmendi’s conviction stemmed from several serious charges, including multiple counts of lewd acts upon a child, kidnapping for the purpose of molestation, and attempting to engage a minor in illicit activities. The Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office (SCDAO) detailed the nature of the crimes, revealing that Arizmendi had exploited his relationship with the young victim, whom he had met through Xbox Live.
According to authorities, the grooming process initiated by Arizmendi included incentivising the boy by purchasing add-ons for his gaming account. This manipulation escalated as Arizmendi began sending explicit sexual messages to the child. Arizmendi’s intentions became even clearer when he arranged for the boy to visit him in Los Angeles, believing that this would lead to a sexual relationship. He travelled to Sacramento to collect the child, and on their return journey, he began to touch the boy inappropriately. In a subsequent interview with detectives, Arizmendi reportedly confessed to his intention of engaging in sexual acts with the child.
