Elio Persico, aged 32, received a sentence of four years and nine months in prison for manslaughter after opting for a plea bargain, as confirmed by his attorney, Liberato Mazzola, to AFP, as reported by CBS News. The tragic event occurred when Vaughan was flung off a motorboat during a collision off Italy’s Amalfi Coast.
Reports indicated that Vaughan had been accompanied by her spouse and their children on a 9-meter speedboat at the time of the accident, colliding with a 45-meter vessel named the Tortuga, as detailed by U.K. newspaper The Guardian and CNN. Notably, Persico was found to have tested positive for cocaine and alcohol during the collision.

It was later disclosed by the public prosecutor of Salerno, Marinella Guglielmotti, to CNN that the Tortuga’s captain tested negative for substances and was not under scrutiny, with no passengers aboard the Tortuga sustaining injuries.
