Owens Jr., a junior defensive lineman at Huntingdon College in Montgomery, was involved in a fatal accident when his vehicle collided with a truck on a highway in Chilton County on Monday, Nov. 10.

The tragic crash, which resulted in the loss of both James E. Owens Jr. and the other driver, occurred at around 5:35 a.m. Authorities reported that James’ 2019 Chevrolet Camaro collided head-on with a 2016 Toyota Tundra driven by Justin E. Carlee, 42, on U.S. 82, about two miles west of Maplesville. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) highway patrol division is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident, with details still emerging.
