PepsiCo, a leading snack company, has recently unveiled its new line of Simply NKD Doritos and Cheetos, stripping away artificial colors and flavors from these popular snacks. The new offerings, set to hit store shelves on December 1, will include classic flavors like Flamin’ Hot and Cool Ranch, providing consumers with a more natural snacking option.

According to a spokesperson from PepsiCo, the decision to offer NKD options underscores the company’s dedication to flavour excellence, showcasing that the products can maintain their iconic taste even without artificial additives. This move comes as part of PepsiCo’s ongoing commitment to meeting consumer demands for cleaner, more transparent ingredients in their food choices.

The introduction of Simply NKD Doritos and Cheetos marks a significant shift towards more transparent and natural snacking options. These products are not intended to replace the original iconic snacks but rather provide an alternative for those seeking a more wholesome snacking experience. Rachel Ferdinando, CEO of PepsiCo Foods U.S., emphasised that the taste of the snacks remains robust, even without the visual cues provided by artificial colors.
Available in Puffs and Flamin’ Hot variants, Cheetos Simply NKD will offer a more subdued appearance compared to its vibrantly coloured counterpart. Similarly, Doritos Simply NKD will feature classic flavours like Cool Ranch and Nacho Cheese in a more natural colour palette. The revamped snacks underwent an eight-week long process to remove artificial dyes without compromising on taste.
In a blind taste test conducted by NBC News, consumers struggled to differentiate between the original and Simply NKD products, highlighting the success of PepsiCo’s efforts to maintain the snacks’ authentic flavours. Although some discerning viewers were able to identify the new snacks, they praised the taste, affirming the success of the natural ingredients.
Hernán Tantardini, CMO of PepsiCo Foods U.S., hailed the launch of Simply NKD Doritos and Cheetos as a “snacking revolution,” emphasising the company’s commitment to providing bold flavours without artificial additives. The innovative snacks are now available for pre-order, offering consumers the opportunity to experience the reimagined classics firsthand before their official release on December 1.
PepsiCo’s decision to phase out artificial dyes from its products aligns with a broader industry trend towards cleaner, more natural ingredients. The move has garnered support from advocates like U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who has advocated for the removal of such additives from food products. By embracing the NKD launch, PepsiCo is setting a new standard for transparency and quality in the snacking industry.
As consumer preferences continue to shift towards healthier and more sustainable options, PepsiCo’s introduction of Simply NKD Doritos and Cheetos represents a significant step towards meeting these evolving demands. With their commitment to flavour excellence and ingredient transparency, PepsiCo is poised to lead the way in providing consumers with wholesome snacking choices that deliver on both taste and quality.
