In a delightful reminiscence, Skyler Gisondo, now 30, recently shared a heartwarming story that combines youth, celebrity, and a dash of nostalgia. Back in 2014, while filming *Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb*, the young actor enlisted the help of two renowned stars—Ben Stiller and the late Robin Williams—to create a unique promposal that has since become the stuff of legend.
While working alongside Stiller and Williams, Gisondo, then just 17 years old, had a playful idea for how to invite his girlfriend to the high school prom. Reflecting on that moment, he described it as “probably the greatest moment of my life.” With aspirations of crafting a simple promposal video, Gisondo wrote a brief skit and boldly sought the participation of his illustrious co-stars.

In conversation with Entertainment Weekly, he recounted how Stiller, who played a pivotal role in his experience, went above and beyond to support him during the project. “I wanted to make, like, a prom-posal video asking my girlfriend to prom,” Gisondo explained. “I asked Ben and Robin if they would do it, and they both said yes.”

What Gisondo initially envisioned as a straightforward clip unexpectedly transformed into a larger production thanks to the enthusiasm of his co-stars. Stiller took the lead, rallying the entire film crew to help create an engaging video. “He had our cinematographer light it up,” Gisondo remembered, adding that once they began, the script quickly evolved into a more spontaneous, lively scene that stretched to three or four minutes.
The resulting footage showcases Gisondo in an endearing scene, complete with a rose and a monkey perched on his head, flanked by both Stiller and Williams, who comically riff about being “verklempt” over Gisondo’s charming gesture. Williams, in characteristic fashion, lent his wit to the moment, exclaiming, “A monkey and a rose, that’s so Freudian!” while pretending to weep from joy.
Recollecting the experience, Gisondo could hardly contain his admiration for Williams and Stiller. “It was like the greatest, to this day, probably the greatest moment of my life,” he confessed, beaming as he reflected on how the video not only brought smiles but also solidified his date to prom.
Tragically, the world lost Robin Williams in August 2014, just months after the promposal video was filmed. Williams, who famously portrayed U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt in *Night at the Museum*, passed away at the age of 63 after battling Lewy Body Dementia, a neurological disorder that profoundly impacts cognitive functions. His legacy, laden with laughter and inspiration, continues to resonate with fans and former colleagues alike.
In the years following that poignant set moment, Gisondo and Stiller have maintained their connection. The two reunited in a father-son role for *Focker-in-Law*, the fourth entry in the beloved *Meet the Parents* series, which originally debuted in 2000. The film, also featuring notable names such as Robert De Niro and Ariana Grande, is set for release on November 25.
Additionally, Gisondo can be seen in *Primetime*, directed by Lance Oppenheim, which is currently in theatres. His trajectory in Hollywood, marked by memorable encounters and experiences, continues to captivate audiences as he effortlessly moves between comedy and drama.
Skyler Gisondo’s promposal story, steeped in star power and heartfelt moments, is not only a testament to the warm bonds formed on set but also a cherishable memory that exemplifies the joy of youth and the power of friendship in unexpected places.
