David Harbour Reflects on ‘Irresponsible’ ‘Stranger Things’ Shoot with Co-Stars (Exclusive)

David Harbour, known for his role in the hit series “Stranger Things,” recently shared some behind-the-scenes anecdotes from the show’s set, including a particularly memorable and “irresponsible” day of filming with his co-stars Millie Bobby Brown and Finn Wolfhard. In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE at the season 5 premiere, Harbour revealed a funny incident that took place while shooting a scene for the show.

The talented cast of “Stranger Things” graced the premiere of the latest season in Los Angeles, where Harbour, alongside his co-star Brown, was spotted sharing hugs and laughter. Harbour, 50, admitted that while he usually maintained professionalism on set, there was one scene during season 3 that had him struggling to keep a straight face.
Describing the scene, Harbour reminisced, “I’m sitting there with Finn and Millie on the bed and I say to Finn — I’m very angry at Finn and I’m like, ‘You got to get home because I don’t want him in bed with my daughter.’ And I’m like, ‘You got to get home.’ And he goes, ‘Why? What’s the matter?’ And I go, ‘It’s your grandma.’” The actor confessed that he found it impossible to deliver that particular line, resulting in a fit of laughter that delayed filming for an hour.
Harbour jokingly recounted how he was unable to contain his laughter, much to the amusement of his young co-stars. Despite apologizing to Brown, 21, and Wolfhard, 22, the memory of that day continues to stand out for him as a rare instance of breaking character on set.
As an actor known for his professionalism, Harbour found the experience of losing composure on set both liberating and memorable. He expressed, “If you watch that thing, that really is probably one of my favorite memories because I’m a pretty responsible guy when I go to work, but I was very, very irresponsible that day.”
The chemistry between Harbour and Brown, who play adoptive father-daughter duo Jim Hopper and Eleven on the show, was evident as they arrived together on the red carpet for the premiere. Fans were delighted to see the pair sharing genuine moments of laughter and affection, showcasing their off-screen camaraderie.
The public display of warmth between the two actors comes amidst reports of Brown filing harassment and bullying claims against Harbour, stirring speculation among fans and media outlets. While neither of the stars has addressed the rumours, the on-screen bond between Harbour and Brown has been a highlight of “Stranger Things” since its inception in 2015.
The popular series, which has garnered a massive following over the years, is set to premiere its highly-anticipated fifth season this month. With Volume 1 hitting screens on Nov. 26, followed by Volume 2 on Dec. 25, and the finale on Dec. 31, fans can expect an epic conclusion to the beloved show.
Harbour and Brown’s on-screen chemistry and real-life friendship have been pivotal to the success of “Stranger Things,” captivating audiences worldwide. As the show embarks on its final season, fans are eager to see how the dynamic between their favorite characters unfolds in the concluding chapters of this supernatural saga.
