As millions of families face the suspension of their Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits due to the ongoing government shutdown, several food delivery services are launching initiatives to provide support during this challenging time.

DoorDash, Instacart, and Gopuff have all introduced programs aimed at assisting SNAP recipients who are at risk of food insecurity. These initiatives include offering free meals, discounts on groceries, and credits to help offset the loss of food assistance.
On October 26th, DoorDash rolled out its Emergency Food Response initiative, which promises to provide one million free meals through ProjectDash and its network of food banks and pantries. Additionally, the food delivery app will waive delivery fees for approximately 300,000 grocery orders for SNAP beneficiaries, particularly as the holiday season approaches.
To avail of these benefits, eligible individuals with a valid SNAP/EBT card linked to their DoorDash account can use the promo code SNAPDD in the app until November 30, 2025. DoorDash is also committed to donating food to local food banks through its DashMart feature.
Instacart joined the effort on October 31st by offering a 50% discount (up to $50) on grocery purchases for families affected by the suspension of SNAP benefits. This offer, available until November 30, can be redeemed at numerous retail banners and stores that accept SNAP payments through the app, with up to 100,000 redemptions planned.
Moreover, Instacart is expanding its Carts Campaign to enable supporters to donate food and essentials to over 300 Feeding America food bank partners across the country, further aiding those in need during this crisis.
Gopuff is also making a significant contribution by pledging up to $10 million in free groceries for SNAP recipients. Throughout November, the delivery service is offering qualifying shoppers two $25 credits to spend on SNAP-eligible items, helping them access essential goods and groceries.
By linking their SNAP EBT card to their Gopuff account, eligible individuals can take advantage of this offer by using the provided promo codes during specific time frames in November. Each code will remain active until 200,000 redemptions are reached, offering substantial savings to households struggling with food insecurity.
The current government shutdown, which commenced on October 1, has left millions of Americans, including children and seniors, without the critical support of SNAP benefits. The U.S. Department of Agriculture reports that 42 million Americans rely on the program each month, emphasising the urgent need for alternative solutions in the absence of federal funding.
In response to this crisis, DoorDash, Instacart, and Gopuff are demonstrating their commitment to combating hunger and supporting vulnerable communities during this difficult period. Their initiatives aim to provide immediate relief and assistance to those impacted by the shutdown, ensuring that no family goes hungry in America.
Overall, the collaborative efforts of these food delivery services highlight the importance of community support and solidarity in times of crisis, showcasing the resilience and compassion of businesses towards addressing pressing social issues.
