The 55-year-old actor, known for his role on “Parks and Recreation,” disclosed that he wore an ‘incredible fat suit’ to portray the 21st U.S. president. He also donned big mutton chops and even gained about 20 pounds to fully immerse himself in the character. The discomfort he experienced from the fat suit and tight costumes helped him tap into the personality of Chester Arthur.
Offerman spoke candidly about the lifestyle changes he made to get into character, mentioning how he embraced hedonism to gain weight. By letting himself go physically, he was able to adopt a more slovenly demeanor that was essential for capturing the essence of Chester Arthur.
