Kendal Conrad, a seasoned vocalist, has set an ambitious target of performing the United States national anthem 250 times throughout 2026. This initiative is part of her tribute to the nation’s 250th anniversary. The 35-year-old singer has been immersed in music for over 17 years but has recently discovered a deep passion for the anthem, which has propelled her on an unexpected journey across the country.

Conrad’s affinity for the anthem began somewhat serendipitously. Initially, she was invited to sing at several Major League Baseball (MLB) games, and after her fourth performance, she found herself contemplating a greater challenge. Realising there were 30 teams in total, she pondered, “What if I did all of them?” This thought sparked her current mission of counting each performance, and thus her journey with the anthem began to unfold.

Originally, her goal was modest; she aimed to perform the anthem once a week. However, upon reaching her 78th rendition, she escalated her aspirations to 250 performances. “It’s turned into this crazy journey I’m on with this song,” she explained. Her enthusiasm for the anthem has resonated with many, leading to fans and followers supporting her quest through social media interactions.
Among the many highlights of her journey, a performance at Wrigley Field in Chicago remains particularly special to Conrad. “That had been on my bucket list for so long,” she recalled with excitement. The historic significance of the venue made the experience unforgettable for her, especially as she sang for the Chicago Cubs.
Beyond MLB games, Conrad has performed the anthem at a variety of events, including galas and local gatherings, which she admits were opportunities she had not anticipated. Her performances have taken her across the country, expanding her horizons and fulfilling a growing sense of adventure. “It’s overwhelming to think of all the places I’ve gone to because of one song,” she stated, reflecting on the journey that began with a single performance.
As of now, she has completed 228 performances, yet her schedule does not yet include the final 250th appearance. Despite this, she remains optimistic about reaching her goal, especially with three months remaining in the year. There is even a possibility she may aim for 500 performances, contemplating how to make her project even more significant. “How can I make this bigger?” she mused, contemplating the scope of her contributions to music and community.
Conrad’s journey exemplifies the unifying power of music. She emphasised her passion for singing and the collective joy it brings to others, revealing that “people seem to like it when I sing it.” This connection has ultimately kept her motivated and encouraged her to continue her mission. As she approaches this milestone, Conrad reflects on the emotional weight of what achieving her goal might mean to her. “I can’t even imagine how I’m gonna react in the moment,” she admitted in regard to her anticipated feelings upon completing her 250th performance.
For Kendal Conrad, singing the national anthem has transformed from a personal challenge into a nationwide celebration. Her story captures not only her dedication and talent but also the broader impact of music as a tool for unity and expression. As she continues to sing and reach new audiences, Conrad reinforces the idea that, while the journey started with a singular anthem, it has blossomed into a heartfelt tribute to her country and a showcase of her enduring love for music.
