A significant recall has been issued for more than 2 million pounds of Golden Island Korean barbecue pork jerky after reports of potential contamination with metal fragments. The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) revealed on Friday, Oct. 24, that LSI, Inc., a South Dakota-based company, is recalling 2,277,540 pounds of pork jerky due to consumers finding “pieces of wiry metal” in the product.

The FSIS stated that the metal contamination originated from the conveyor belt used during production at LSI, Inc. However, there have been no confirmed injuries reported from consuming the affected pork jerky. Consumers who are concerned about potential injuries are advised to seek medical advice.
The recalled pork jerky, labelled as “Golden Island fire-grilled pork jerky Korean barbecue recipe,” was distributed to Costco and Sam’s Club retail locations across the United States. The products have “best by” dates ranging from Oct. 23 through Sept. 23, 2026, and are packaged in 14.5-oz. and 16-oz. plastic pouches. The packaging also includes the establishment number “M279A” inside the USDA mark of inspection for identification.
The FSIS is urging consumers who have purchased the affected pork jerky not to consume it. Instead, they are advised to either discard the product or return it to the place of purchase. The agency is conducting recall effectiveness checks to ensure that the recalled products are removed from the market promptly.
In a similar incident, over 1,000 pounds of Ada Valley frozen ground beef were recalled in July after reports of metal contamination. The FSIS continues to monitor and address such food safety concerns to protect consumers.
