According to police reports, Miguel was walking slightly ahead of his mother in the crosswalk when the accident occurred. While the mother was also hit by the vehicle, she fortunately did not sustain major injuries. The driver involved in the incident remained at the scene, and impairment is not believed to have been a factor. The authorities are currently investigating the crash to determine the exact circumstances that led to this tragedy.

Miguel had attended Magical Star Pre-School for two years, where he was fondly remembered by teachers and peers alike. Described as a bright and cheerful child who had blossomed over the years, Miguel was known for his enthusiasm and love for singing. The school community, devastated by his untimely passing, came together to remember him in a charity car wash event held on August 23rd to raise funds for Miguel’s family.
Reflecting on Miguel’s vibrant spirit, Jessica Layton, a former teacher, shared, “He was just the brightest light…this last year, he actually came out of his shell so much.” Eileen Buckley, the Director of Magical Star Pre-School, expressed the deep sorrow felt by the children and staff, saying, “Kids keep asking, ‘Where is he?’…Nobody should lose a child. I’m going to miss everything about him.” The outpouring of support from the community at the charity event underscored the impact that Miguel had on those around him.
Thomas Frontz, the owner of the pre-school, highlighted Miguel’s infectious joy, stating, “He was just a happy kid, just a joy to be around…it’s just a tragedy, I don’t think we can do enough.” The profound loss was also felt by Tamir Fears, a parent whose children were classmates of Miguel. Fears mentioned the ongoing struggle his children faced in coming to terms with the tragic event, saying, “It’s been a very tough week.”
As the community mourns the loss of a young life, efforts to support Miguel’s family and cherish his memory continue. The impact of this heartbreaking incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of road safety and vigilance, particularly in areas frequented by pedestrians. The authorities are working diligently to determine the circumstances surrounding the accident as Miguel’s loved ones and the community seek solace in coming together to honour his memory.
