President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa of Portugal mourned the loss of another firefighter in a fatal traffic accident on the same day.

As the fires rage on for a second consecutive week, the death toll has climbed to two in Portugal and four in Spain. The affected areas are predominantly in the northwest regions of Galicia, Castile and León, and Extremadura. The raging infernos have prompted the evacuation of over 31,000 residents from their homes in Spain, with more than 1,400 troops deployed alongside an additional 500 soldiers to assist in combating the flames.
