Previously known for its cosy, old-country store vibe adorned with brown walls adorned with vintage tools and family portraits, Cracker Barrel has transitioned to a more modern style with white walls, new lighting fixtures, and antique displays neatly organised in shadow boxes. As per a report from The Wall Street Journal, approximately 40 locations had received the updated look as of May.

In response to the ongoing criticism, a spokesperson for Cracker Barrel expressed the company’s contentment with the remodels, highlighting the overwhelmingly positive feedback received from guests and team members. While acknowledging that there may be a vocal minority dissatisfied with the changes, the spokesperson emphasised that the remodels were informed by direct input from customers and staff members.

Employees of Cracker Barrel also weighed in on the discussion, with some members of staff sharing insights on a Reddit forum. One employee defended the changes, noting that the new design improvements would enhance cleanliness, making it easier to spot dirt and maintain hygiene standards compared to the previous decor. The shift to a brighter colour scheme and updated fixtures was also seen as a positive change by some employees.

Despite the mixed reactions to the remodeling efforts, Cracker Barrel remains optimistic about the direction it is heading with its updated stores. The chain hopes that those who have not yet visited one of the remodeled locations will experience the country hospitality that has been a hallmark of Cracker Barrel’s dining experience.
