In recent news, Kraft Heinz Foods Company has issued a recall of over 367,000 pounds of Oscar Mayer turkey bacon products. The recall was initiated due to potential listeria contamination, a serious foodborne bacteria. The affected products include three variations of Oscar Mayer Classic Turkey Bacon: 12-oz., 36-oz., and 48-oz. Fortunately, there have been no reported cases of illness related to the consumption of these products at the time of the recall.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Services (FSIS) announced the recall, highlighting that the implicated products were manufactured between April 24, 2025, and June 11, 2025. Consumers are advised to check for the “use by” dates falling between July 18, 2025, and September 4, 2025. Detailed information on specific UPCs and lot codes can be found on the USDA’s official website.

The recall affects fully-cooked bacon distributed nationwide across the United States, as well as to international destinations such as Hong Kong and the British Virgin Islands. The issue came to light following laboratory testing at the production facility, which revealed the potential presence of listeria. A spokesperson from Kraft Heinz assured consumers of their commitment to product safety and stated that no consumer illnesses had been reported as of July 3.

Listeriosis, the infection caused by the listeria bacteria, can lead to various symptoms including headaches, fever, muscle aches, confusion, and diarrhea. Those at higher risk of severe complications from listeriosis include individuals over 65 years old, pregnant women, and immunocompromised individuals. In critical cases, listeriosis can even result in a fatal infection, underscoring the importance of swift and decisive action in instances of food contamination.
The recall of the Oscar Mayer turkey bacon products comes on the heels of a similar incident involving shrimp products. Recently, Bornstein Seafoods Inc. recalled over 44,000 pounds of Cooked & Peeled Ready-To-Eat Coldwater Shrimp Meat due to potential listeria contamination. This recall serves as a reminder of the vigilance required in maintaining food safety standards across the supply chain to protect consumers from potential harm.
As food safety concerns continue to be in the spotlight, it is crucial for consumers to stay informed and vigilant about product recalls and potential health risks associated with contaminated food items. Regularly checking for recall notices, following safe food handling practices, and promptly addressing any symptoms of foodborne illness are essential steps towards safeguarding health and well-being.
In a world where food safety is paramount, transparency, swift action, and consumer awareness are key pillars in maintaining public trust in food products. The ongoing efforts of regulatory bodies, food manufacturers, and consumers themselves play a vital role in ensuring the safety and integrity of the food supply chain. Stay updated and stay safe.
