Selma Blair, the award-winning actress known for her roles in films such as “Legally Blonde” and “Cruel Intentions,” reportedly faced serious legal consequences after an incident aboard a Delta flight from Los Angeles to New York City on 11 October. Accompanying Blair was her service dog, Scout, who has been a significant part of her life since her diagnosis with multiple sclerosis in 2018.

According to a source familiar with the situation, Blair’s service dog is presently in the care of her defence attorney amid the ongoing legal proceedings. The actress’s relationship with her service dog has been a notable part of her public narrative, as Scout has assisted her in managing daily challenges associated with her condition since they were united in December 2021.
During the flight, an altercation allegedly occurred between Blair and several members of the flight crew, resulting in injuries to a flight attendant and a fellow passenger. Audio from 911 dispatch reveals that the pilot reported a tense scene while seeking medical assistance for the injured. The injuries mentioned included a bloody nose and bite marks from the altercation.
Following the landing at New York’s JFK airport, Blair was taken into custody by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, who labelled her actions aboard the flight as “physically abusive.” A flight attendant also required medical attention following the incident, underscoring the seriousness of the confrontation. Reports indicate that Blair may face both state and federal charges, with potential assault charges being prepared in Queens Criminal Court, as well as federal violations to be addressed in Brooklyn.
A representative for Blair confirmed that the actress experienced a medical emergency prior to the altercation. Following the incident, she was hospitalised but has since been released, while remaining under custody. The representative stated, “Selma experienced a medical emergency that led to the alleged conduct… she received immediate medical attention and is currently in stable condition.”
The 54-year-old actress has spoken openly about her relationship with Scout and how the service dog has empowered her independence. In past interviews, Blair described Scout as crucial in assisting her with mobility, particularly during moments when she struggles with muscle spasms or balance issues. “If I fall into a big spasm or have some trouble moving and need to recalibrate, he can get between my legs, help me get up, and balance me. It’s given me a lot of independence,” she stated.
Despite the recent turmoil, Blair and Scout have remained active in public life, attending various events, including glamorous fashion shows and high-profile gatherings. The pair recently garnered attention at the 2025 Vanity Fair Oscar Party, where Blair shared heartfelt moments featuring her service dog alongside various celebrities.
It is important to note that this incident is not the actress’s first brush with controversy during flights. In 2016, Blair faced another situation on an international flight, which she later attributed to the combination of medication and alcohol, describing it as a “big mistake.”
As the situation unfolds, the legal ramifications of Blair’s actions are likely to capture public attention, particularly given her high-profile status and advocacy for those living with disabilities. The actress has been a prominent figure in raising awareness for multiple sclerosis, and her journey has inspired many who face similar challenges.
In the meantime, Blair’s fans and supporters continue to express their hopes for her recovery and future wellbeing, both emotionally and legally, as she navigates these unforeseen challenges while striving to maintain her independence with the help of her beloved service dog, Scout.
