The aftermath of the explosion saw the recovery of at least 34 bodies from the explosion site, with two additional individuals succumbing to their burns after being taken to the hospital from the factory. The death toll has been continuously rising, with Reuters stating that as of Tuesday, July 1, it had climbed to 39.
According to police officials, more than 140 individuals were inside the factory when the explosion occurred, leading to the complete collapse of the building. The process of clearing the debris is ongoing, with Telangana fire disaster response service director G.V. Narayana Rao stating that a proper assessment for any remaining bodies under the debris can only be conducted once the clearance is completed.

Reports indicate that nearly 36 workers were also hospitalized following the explosion. Tragically, 25 of the bodies recovered from the debris have yet to be identified due to the severe burn injuries sustained during the incident. To address this, a special medical team has been deployed to conduct DNA tests, as confirmed by the state’s Health Minister Damodar Raja Narasimha.

In response to the tragic event, the government of Telangana state has initiated an investigation to uncover the causes behind the explosion. Sigachi Industries, the company operating the plant, has temporarily suspended its operations for 90 days due to the significant damage to its core manufacturing facilities resulting from the explosion.
The chemical plant was primarily involved in producing microcrystalline cellulose, a crucial chemical compound used in drug manufacturing. In the wake of the incident, the company has announced intentions to conduct a thorough site assessment to determine the factors that led to the explosion at their plant.
As the investigation unfolds, questions surrounding safety measures and regulatory compliance will likely be under scrutiny. The repercussions of this tragedy extend beyond the immediate loss of life, highlighting the importance of stringent safety protocols in industrial settings to prevent such devastating incidents in the future.
