The incident took place at Knightly’s Funfair in Towyn, Wales, where Terri Murray, 39, and her nephew experienced a harrowing incident on the Gold Mine Express family coaster ride. Murray described hearing a sudden bang before the cart derailed, causing her to collide with a metal frame and fall to the ground along with the cart. She recounted pulling her nephew close to shield him from harm, but both suffered injuries in the fall.

According to reports, the cart fell approximately 6 feet to the ground, resulting in Murray sustaining multiple injuries that required an overnight stay at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd hospital. Murray shared her ordeal of having to have a head injury treated with glue, along with other pains and bruises from the incident. Despite the physical injuries, Murray expressed gratitude that they survived the ordeal and that her nephew’s injuries were not more severe.
In line with safety reporting regulations, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has been informed of the incident and is conducting inquiries into what happened at the amusement park. As Murray continues to recover from the traumatic experience, she praised her niece for stepping up to help them during the ordeal, despite her own challenges. Murray acknowledged the emotional toll of the incident, including nightmares, and expressed thanks to those who offered assistance.
Knightly’s Fun Park, where the incident occurred, has been in contact with the family following the incident. Murray mentioned the park’s communication with them but expressed her struggle to focus on discussions at the moment. She commended the children for their resilience in handling the challenging situation, highlighting their bravery and composure during the frightening roller coaster derailment.
The Gold Mine Express, the ride in question at Knightly’s Funfair, is noted as one of the park’s newest attractions, requiring children to be a minimum height to ride accompanied by an adult. While the park did not provide an immediate response to inquiries about the incident, Murray’s account sheds light on the importance of safety measures and heightened vigilance in amusement park settings to prevent such incidents from occurring again.
As investigations continue into the roller coaster derailment incident at Knightly’s Funfair, the focus remains on ensuring the well-being of those affected and preventing similar incidents in the future. This serves as a reminder of the importance of upholding safety standards in amusement parks to safeguard the visitors’ experiences and prevent potential accidents that can lead to injuries or worse.
