VANCE BOELTER ALLEGEDLY VISITED HOMES OF 2 OTHER LAWMAKERS BETWEEN SHOOTINGS

Vance Boelter, the suspect accused of committing a heinous crime by killing a Minnesota lawmaker and injuring another, allegedly visited the homes of four state lawmakers. Boelter is now facing federal charges for the murders of Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, as well as the shootings of Sen. John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, who fortunately survived the attack. During a press conference, Acting U.S. Attorney for Minnesota, Joseph H. Thompson, described the shootings as “the stuff of nightmares.”
Thompson explained that Boelter first went to Hoffman’s residence in Champlin, Minn., where he falsely claimed to be a police officer. Upon opening the door, the Hoffmans realized Boelter was not law enforcement, leading to a confrontation where Boelter allegedly admitted to robbing them before shooting the couple. Following this tragic event, Boelter drove to Maple Grove to another legislator’s home, who was fortunately not present at the time, according to Thompson.
Subsequently, police in the area began to mobilize, and an officer stationed at the home of a state senator in New Hope observed Boelter’s SUV parked nearby. Initially believing Boelter to be a legitimate police officer sent to check on the senator, the officer attempted to engage in dialogue with him, but Boelter did not respond. Thompson disclosed that by the time additional officers arrived, Boelter had left the scene.
Boelter then proceeded to the home of Melissa Hortman in Brooklyn Park, where city police officers were present for a proactive check-in. Upon their arrival, Boelter allegedly began firing shots into the door, resulting in the tragic deaths of Melissa and Mark Hortman. Inside Boelter’s vehicle, law enforcement allegedly discovered a notebook containing the names of over 40 Minnesota elected officials, including Hortman’s.
Authorities arrested Thompson nearly 48 hours after the shootings occurred. Federal charges against Boelter include two counts of murder, two counts of stalking, and two firearms-related offenses. The investigation into this disturbing series of events continues as law enforcement seeks to understand the motive behind these targeted attacks and ensure justice is served.
