Louisiana Minister Tragically Killed in Boating Accident

A Louisiana minister met with a tragic end in a freak accident when he was thrown from his boat and struck by the propeller. The minister, Danny Harrison, aged 71, faced the unfortunate incident while on Lake Charles’ Calcasieu River on June 8th. According to a news release from the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF), Harrison was known for his skills as a fisherman and for providing the “absolute biggest and warmest hugs”.
The incident occurred when Harrison was ejected from his 16-foot boat after hitting an object in the water, leading the unmanned vessel with a 40-horsepower engine to circle and ultimately collide with him. It was noted by LDWF that although Harrison was wearing a life jacket, he did not have a “kill switch lanyard” that could have shut off the boat engine if he was thrown overboard. The use of a kill switch lanyard is mandatory for vessels of the size and power of the one Harrison was operating.
Described in an online obituary as a highly skilled fisherman who guarded his fishing spots and shared warm embraces with everyone, Harrison was also a licensed minister dedicated to his vocation. He is survived by his wife, children, and siblings. A memorial service was held in Lake Charles on June 12th to honor his memory.
