25-year-old former NFL player Kelvin Joseph Jr. has been arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated (DWI) following a fatal motorcycle crash in Texas, as reported by the Richardson Police Department. The tragic incident took place on Saturday morning, June 7, when a motorcyclist lost his life in a collision involving Joseph on the US-75 expressway near Dallas.
The Richardson Police were already investigating the crash scene when Joseph himself alerted authorities by calling 911 to report his involvement in the incident. According to the official statement released by the police, Joseph, who is a cornerback for the D.C. Defenders in the United Football League (UFL), was driving a BMW sedan northbound on North Central Expressway when the collision with the motorcycle occurred. Police officers detected signs of intoxication when they interacted with Joseph at the scene.

Tragically, the collision resulted in the death of a 27-year-old female motorcycle driver named Cody Morris from Plano, Texas. The police confirmed that no other individuals or vehicles were present at the crash site, indicating that it was a direct impact between Joseph’s car and the motorcycle. Joseph was subsequently taken into custody and booked at the Richardson Police Department Jail around 7:45 a.m. on the same day.
This is not Joseph’s first encounter with legal troubles. In March 2022, he was involved in a separate incident in Dallas where gunshots were fired from a vehicle he was a passenger in, resulting in the death of a young man. However, it was determined that Joseph was not the shooter in that case, and he was not suspended by the NFL for his involvement. Joseph had a career in the NFL playing for teams like the Dallas Cowboys, Miami Dolphins, and Seattle Seahawks before moving to the UFL with the D.C. Defenders.
Currently, Joseph’s charges include DWI, considered a misdemeanor, and collision involving death, classified as a felony. As the legal proceedings progress, details regarding his bond and court appearances will continue to unfold. The tragic events have left the community in shock, especially considering Joseph’s background as a former NFL star and the circumstances that led to the fatal crash.
In the wake of this devastating incident, authorities are reminding the public about the dangers of driving under the influence and the potential consequences it can have on innocent lives. As the case develops, the focus remains on seeking justice for the victim and ensuring that accountability is upheld. The impact of such tragedies reverberates through communities, serving as a stark reminder of the importance of responsible behaviour on the roads.
The D.C. Defenders, Joseph’s current team in the UFL, are set to compete in a championship game amidst the unfolding events involving their player. The team and the league are yet to comment on the situation, and further updates are expected as the investigation progresses. The road ahead for Joseph is uncertain, with legal ramifications and potential disciplinary actions looming as a result of the fatal crash.
As the story unfolds, the implications of Joseph’s actions will continue to be scrutinised, shedding light on the responsibilities that come with being a public figure and the repercussions of reckless behaviour. The aftermath of such incidents serves as a sobering reminder of the fragility of life and the irreversible impact of tragic events caused by negligence on the part of individuals. The community mourns the loss of the victim while grappling with the repercussions of a preventable tragedy.
