However, Nist, 71, has come forward to clarify that his health condition did not influence her decision to end their marriage, stating that she had known about the cancer for a while.

During an episode of the iHeartRadio Almost Famous Podcast on June 5, Nist expressed her surprise and disappointment at Turner’s comments, revealing that he had downplayed the seriousness of his illness to her. She emphasised that their breakup was not related to his health but rather that their relationship simply “didn’t work out.”

Nist, who was married for 42 years to her first husband until his passing in 2014, asserted that she would never leave a partner due to illness. She explained that after their split, both she and Turner agreed to move on and date other people, though she personally would have preferred to stay in the relationship longer.

Despite the public backlash following Turner’s comments, Nist displayed empathy towards him, suggesting that perhaps he sought public sympathy by mentioning his cancer diagnosis. She admitted to feeling angry initially but acknowledged that everyone has their own perspective on the situation.

In terms of their current relationship post-divorce, Nist disclosed that they have maintained some distance, with Turner keen on maintaining a friendship while she has been more reticent.
