A New York man, Drew Garnier, 33, found himself in a horrifying situation that ultimately led to devastating consequences. His desire for a son caused him to commit unspeakable acts, resulting in the death of his pregnant wife, Samantha Garnier, who was carrying their third daughter at the time.

Sentenced to 30 years in prison, Garnier pleaded guilty to charges of first-degree manslaughter and two counts of first-degree assault as part of a plea deal with prosecutors. The tragic events unfolded in September 2024 at the couple’s home in New York, where Garnier violently stabbed his wife, who was only 29 years old and five months pregnant.

During the court proceedings, Samantha’s father delivered a heart-wrenching victim impact statement, revealing that Garnier had killed his wife because he desired a son. Samantha had received the heartbreaking news that their third child would also be a girl, which allegedly triggered Garnier’s violent outburst.

Following the heinous act, Garnier also stabbed his two daughters, aged 6 and 9, on the same night. To prevent the girls from having to testify in a trial, prosecutors reached a deal allowing Garnier to plead guilty to lesser charges. This decision aimed to spare the young girls from further trauma and pain.

The sentencing, which took place this week, saw Garnier being handed a 30-year prison term, followed by 15 years of supervised release. Prior to the sentencing, Samantha’s father made a poignant statement in court, expressing his commitment to adopting and protecting his granddaughters, who now look to him as their father.

The tragic incident unfolded when police responded to a domestic dispute at the Garnier residence in Centerville on September 5, 2024. Upon arrival, authorities discovered all three females in the house with multiple stab wounds. While Samantha tragically succumbed to her injuries shortly after reaching the hospital, her daughters managed to survive.

Acknowledging the trauma endured by the young girls, the Delaware County District Attorney’s Office referenced it as a contributing factor in the plea deal that lessened Garnier’s sentence. District Attorney Shawn J. Smith stated the importance of sparing the daughters a lengthy trial, allowing them to focus on recovering from the traumatic events they experienced.

As part of the sentencing, the judge prohibited Garnier from having contact with his daughters until 2056. However, the girls have the opportunity to petition the court to adjust this order should they ever wish to communicate with their father.
