Priest Killed and 4 Others Injured in Monastery Knife Attack During Mass: ‘Total Panic’

The local cathedral in Rzeszów confirmed via social media that prayers were being offered for Father Marek’s recovery and for the souls of those affected by the tragedy.

Reports indicate that the four male victims, all clergy members, sustained severe injuries, while a female victim’s identity remains unknown. Police are conducting an extensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the potential motives of the assailant.

Witnesses at the scene recounted their panic and shock at the violent outburst. “When I arrived, there was total panic,” Sister Barbara recounted, adding that young people present described the attack as being perpetrated by “some madman.” This reflects the widespread alarm felt within the community during the sudden and violent act.

The Polish Minister of Interior and Administration, Marcin Kierwiński, addressed the incident on social media, confirming the swift detention of the suspect. “A Ukrainian citizen was immediately detained after an attack on five people. The services are investigating the motives and circumstances of the incident,” he stated, emphasising the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to uncover further details.

Further insight into the victims’ condition was provided by the District Prosecutor’s Office in Przemyśl. Prosecutor Małgorzata Taciuch-Kurasiewicz confirmed that the fatality was indeed a clergyman and remarked on the nature of the injuries suffered by the victims, believed to have been caused by a kitchen knife.
