Marlo Thomas Steps Back into the Spotlight After Phil Donahue’s Passing

Renowned actress Marlo Thomas recently emerged from her period of mourning for her late husband, Phil Donahue, to attend Family Equality’s annual Night at the Pier gala. This public appearance marked the first time she has been seen since Donahue’s passing eight months ago. The event, held in New York City’s Pier 60 on Chelsea Piers, drew support from various celebrities like Demi Moore, Debbie Harry, and Nicole Scherzinger, who gathered to show their support for LGBTQ+ families.
Thomas appeared cheerful and in good spirits during the gala on May 12. Throughout the night, other honourees included Peggy Gillespie from Family Diversity Projects and Jim Obergefell, the lead plaintiff in the landmark case Obergefell v. Hodges, which established marriage equality in the United States. Among the numerous guests at the gala were familiar faces like Tallulah Willis, Kelly Ripa, Jessica Lange, Billy Eichner, and many more. Performances by Nicole Scherzinger, Megan Hilty, and Darren Criss added a musical touch to the evening.
The event succeeded in raising an impressive $1.5 million in support of Family Equality’s mission to advance legal and lived equality for LGBTQ+ families nationwide.
