Concerns about a potential serial killer lurking in New England are on the rise following the discovery of the remains of an eighth victim. The unidentified body of a woman was found on a riverfront bike path in Massachusetts, adding to the growing unease in the region.

In just a few weeks since early March, a total of eight bodies, predominantly women, have been found in various locations across Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island. The most recent grim finding occurred on Tuesday, April 22, when authorities in Springfield responded to reports of an unresponsive woman near Hall of Fame Avenue.
Springfield Police Department spokesperson Ryan Walsh disclosed that the woman was pronounced dead shortly after she was discovered. The department’s homicide unit is set to conduct an investigation into the incident pending an autopsy by the medical examiner.
Despite ongoing investigations into the individual cases, authorities have not established any connections between the deaths. While police have indicated that foul play is not suspected in at least three of the fatalities, concerns among the public persist.
Social media platforms, including the New England SK group on Facebook with over 17,000 members, have become focal points for discussions and speculation surrounding the spate of deaths. Speculation heightened after the discovery of a human skull on March 6 in Plymouth, Massachusetts, with further discoveries following in subsequent weeks.
On March 6, the remains of 35-year-old Paige Fannon from West Islip, N.Y., were found in Norwalk, Connecticut. Norwalk Police Department officials have stated that, based on their investigations, there is no indication of foul play or a connection to a serial killer in Fannon’s case.
Despite assurances from authorities, concerns were further fuelled on March 19 when human remains were located in Groton, Connecticut. Subsequently, the body of Denise Leary, 59, who went missing in September, was found in New Haven on March 21.
The unsettling trend continued with the discovery of Michele Romano’s body in Foster, Rhode Island, on March 26. Following these incidents, additional human remains were found in Killingly, Connecticut, on April 9, and in Framingham, Massachusetts, on April 10.
Notably, officials are still grappling with determining the cause and circumstances surrounding each of these tragic deaths. Despite the ongoing investigations, the public remains captivated by the possibility of a serial killer’s involvement in these incidents.
Christian Bruckhart, a representative from the New Haven Police Department, acknowledged the public’s fascination with such cases. He highlighted the allure surrounding serial killers, noting society’s intrigue with the unknown and the darker aspects of human behaviour.
As investigations continue into these disturbing events, authorities are urging the public to remain cautious and avoid drawing premature conclusions. The community awaits further developments amidst the lingering fears and uncertainties surrounding the series of deaths in New England.
