Pete Hegseth, the Secretary of Defense, has reportedly issued an order for the installation of a makeup studio at the Pentagon, with estimations suggesting it could run into thousands of dollars, according to sources revealed to CBS News on April 23. The proposed makeup studio is intended to be incorporated into the Pentagon’s Press Room area, with initial projections pointing towards a cost exceeding $40,000. However, the idea was purportedly downscaled following discussions.

The initiative for the makeup studio was purportedly put forth by Tami Radabaugh, who serves as the deputy assistant to Hegseth for strategic engagement. Sources also mentioned that Chief Pentagon spokesman, Sean Parnell, and Hegseth’s wife, Jennifer Rauchet, gave their consent for the upgrade, despite the backdrop of cost-saving measures during the Trump administration. Notably, both Radabaugh and Rauchet have backgrounds as former producers at Fox News.

A spokesperson from the Defense Department addressed the situation by stating that modifications and enhancements to the Pentagon Briefing Room are customary during transitions in administration. Conversely, the Pentagon’s Rapid Response X account dismissed the report as “trash,” refuting claims such as the absence of a lighted mirror and contesting the reported substantial costs, asserting that the items integrated into the green room were sourced from existing inventory. It was disclosed that the adjacent green room had been revamped earlier in the year, inclusive of enhancements like a larger mirror and improved lighting for makeup application. The refined room is intended for senior leaders in preparation for media appearances.
Hegseth, known for his past role as a morning host on Fox & Friends Weekend, has been involved in applying his own makeup for public engagements. Although he has yet to address reporters in the White House Press room, he continues to make regular appearances on Fox News. Recent media coverage detailed leaked messages from Hegseth that disclosed discussions within the Trump administration about military operations, with Hegseth subsequently attributing the leaks to the media.
Amid these developments, reports emerged documenting messages exchanged by Hegseth regarding U.S. airstrikes in Yemen within closed communication groups, including his wife and other individuals. The Pentagon asserted that no classified information had been disclosed in these discussions. Speculation has arisen regarding President Donald Trump’s evaluations of Hegseth’s position amid the Signal chat controversy, with indications suggesting Trump is seeking insights from those around him before determining any potential actions.
Throughout these revelations, the Department of Defense has emphasised their commitment to executing the directives of President Trump efficiently. As the situation evolves, public attention remains fixed on the unfolding events within the Pentagon and the decisions made by its senior officials.
