The Airbus A330 aircraft was stationary after leaving the gate at 11:15 a.m. EST when smoke and fire were spotted emanating from the rear of the plane. The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed that the smoke resulted from an engine fire. Fire trucks rushed to the scene to extinguish the flames, while an ambulance stood by to assist passengers as they disembarked using the emergency slides.
Passengers recounted the harrowing experience, with one mentioning that the runways seemed in unusual condition, and the plane had made a rough landing before flipping sideways. Despite the unsettling ordeal, all individuals onboard managed to evacuate and were promptly brought back to the terminal.
