Princess Isabella of Denmark recently showcased her witty side during her inaugural official speech as the festivities kicked off for her upcoming 18th birthday. The eldest daughter of King Frederik and Queen Mary is set to turn 18 on April 21, and she pleasantly surprised the audience by opening her remarks with a self-deprecating joke at Aarhus City Hall on April 11.
The city of Aarhus marked the beginning of the celebrations for Princess Isabella’s birthday by hosting a gathering for 100 local young individuals last Friday. The young royal took to the stage to express her gratitude, starting with, “Almost four years ago, I found out that your words can be overheard when you least expect it. Today, I have no doubt that the microphone is on.”

This playful comment harked back to a previous encounter involving Isabella and her mother, Mary. In 2021, Princess Isabella amusingly asked her mother, “Are you completely confused?” during a photo op session following Crown Prince Christian’s confirmation at church. The light-hearted moment resonated with many families, capturing a relatable scenario that made its rounds in the media.
In her address, Princess Isabella went on to extend her thanks to Aarhus, Denmark’s second-largest city by population, for hosting the special festivities in honor of her birthday. She expressed her appreciation, stating, “Thank you so much for a very special birthday celebration. It makes me really happy to be celebrated in a city that means a lot to me and my family,” as shared by the Danish Royal House.
King Frederik and Queen Mary are the proud parents of Crown Prince Christian, 19, Princess Isabella, and twins Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine, 14, who are anticipated to assume full-time royal responsibilities in the future. Princess Isabella’s adeptness for her royal duties shone through during her birthday commemoration in Aarhus, where she graced the occasion alongside her parents and younger siblings.
The festivity at Aarhus City Hall saw local young talents converge to pay tribute to Princess Isabella’s birthday, encompassing music, sports, cuisine, and design. The city allocated approximately $42,800 for the celebratory events, featuring a sustainable fashion show, musical performances, dance acts, and a birthday cake crafted by students from a vocational program.
Princess Isabella effortlessly blended with the crowd as she engaged in a walkabout, waving flags, receiving flowers, and interacting with individuals of her age group. The merriment is set to continue on April 15, with Princess Isabella and the royal family scheduled to attend a performance dedicated to her at The Old Stage of The Royal Danish Theatre in Copenhagen. Over 1,000 young people aged between 17 and 24, hailing from Denmark, the Faroe Islands, and Greenland, secured tickets for the show through a lottery.
As the royal family gears up for the culmination of Princess Isabella’s birthday on April 21, coinciding with the late Queen Elizabeth’s birthday, the young princess continues to captivate hearts with her charm and charisma, embodying the essence of the Danish monarchy’s future.
