Kelly Zajfen Unveils New Mother’s Day T-Shirt Designed by Poet Cleo Wade to Support Alliance of Moms

Kelly Zajfen, co-founder of Alliance of Moms and a close friend of Meghan Markle, has introduced a new T-shirt for Mother’s Day with proceeds aimed at supporting the Alliance of Moms foundation. The non-profit organisation works towards aiding pregnant youth in Los Angeles’s foster care system. This year’s T-shirt, co-created with acclaimed poet and author Cleo Wade, showcases the word “Mama” repetitively, with a touch of “Thank You” appended at the conclusion.

Zajfen explained that the design inspiration stemmed from the iconic “Thank You” bags commonly found in New York delis. She shared with PEOPLE, “Cleo painted the words, and we printed them on the shirts and totes. Every year I design this, I try to come up with a meaningful message — encapsulating motherhood in just a few words or slang can be challenging.” She emphasised that the T-shirt is not solely for mothers but for anyone who encapsulates motherhood in their own unique way.

The proceeds from the sales of these Mother’s Day T-shirts will contribute to the Alliance of Moms foundation, which Zajfen established ten years ago to provide essential resources to pregnant girls and women within Los Angeles’s foster care system. Last year’s “Love Like a Mother” shirt enjoyed popularity after being flaunted by Zajfen’s friends, Abigail Spencer and Meghan Markle, on social media platforms.

The inception of Alliance of Moms traces back to when Zajfen, along with three other mothers, united during a Mommy and Me class while she was expecting twins 13 years ago. The community became a source of support and love for Zajfen, who had lost her own mother. Learning about a group of women expecting and parenting within the foster care system prompted them to focus on providing resources tailored to those specific needs.

The journey with Alliance of Moms has been personally rewarding for Zajfen, particularly as a source of healing following a devastating loss in 2022 when her 9-year-old son passed away. She expressed, “Being able to invest my heart and energy into something greater has truly aided me in moving forward. These remarkable mothers deserve a brighter future, and I am grateful to play a part in supporting them.”

Zajfen’s commitment extends beyond the foundation’s initiatives, emphasising the importance of kindness and community involvement. Through these efforts, she hopes to instil similar values in her daughter and inspire others to make a positive impact, no matter how small, within their communities.
