A distressing discovery was made on February 19, 2025, when two pit bulls, Princess and Koda, were rescued from deplorable living conditions in Brentwood, New York. Their owner, 48-year-old Stacy Zimmer, was apprehended on the same day and faced charges of animal cruelty, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia, as reported in a press release by the Suffolk County SPCA on Sunday, February 23.
Upon entering Zimmer’s residence, authorities were met with an overpowering and vile stench of feces, urine, and decay. The detectives revealed that the home reeked of ammonia to the extent that it caused them to cough and gag inside. Princess and Koda were found in what was described as “filthy areas of garbage and feces,” with hundreds of dead flies, buckets of urine, and trash scattered throughout the premises.
In addition to the horrific living conditions, authorities also uncovered crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia on the property. The severity of the situation led to the immediate declaration of Zimmer’s home as unfit for human habitation by the Town of Smithtown Code Enforcement, prompting the property to be boarded up following her arrest and subsequent release from custody at the Suffolk County Police Department’s 3rd Precinct.
Zimmer’s next court appearance is scheduled for Friday, March 7 at the First District Court in Central Islip. Meanwhile, Princess and Koda are now under the care of the Islip Animal Shelter, where they are reported to be in need of grooming but not malnourished, according to information shared by a shelter representative with News 12.
