Richard Simmons’ brother, Leonard, recently addressed claims made by Teresa Reveles, the late fitness guru’s housekeeper, alleging that Leonard mishandled funds from Richard’s trust. Reveles accused Leonard of spending a substantial sum from the trust without her knowledge or consent. According to reports, she claimed that Leonard used over $843,000 for various expenses related to the estate since she became the interim co-trustee.

In a court filing, Reveles detailed that Leonard had spent $566,654 on legal fees aimed at removing her from her role as co-trustee, along with $277,200 on round-the-clock armed security at Richard’s home. She further alleged that a portion of these expenses was incurred without her approval, raising concerns about the transparency and proper administration of the trust.

Upon being made aware of Reveles’ accusations, Leonard provided an exclusive statement to PEOPLE, refuting the claims and shedding light on the situation. He emphasised the legal obligations to respond to court filings submitted by Reveles’ attorney, which have significantly increased the estate’s legal fees.
Leonard proposed the appointment of a neutral third party by the court to oversee disagreements in the estate’s administration between him and Reveles. This approach aims to streamline the decision-making process and minimise legal costs, ensuring that the trust is managed in the best interest of Richard Simmons’ legacy.
Regarding the necessity for 24-hour armed security at Richard’s residence, Leonard explained that it was essential due to incidents involving trespassing and unauthorized entry onto the property. He recounted a bizarre situation where individuals claimed to have inherited the house, underscoring the need for heightened security measures until the property is eventually sold.
In response to Reveles’ claims of payments being made without her authorisation, Leonard clarified that delays in her response to invoices from multiple vendors led him to fulfil the financial obligations as the trustee to avoid any potential liabilities for the estate. The ongoing legal disputes and disagreements between the parties highlight the complexities involved in managing Richard Simmons’ estate posthumously.
Following a recent court ruling, Reveles and Leonard have been instructed to collaborate until a final decision is made regarding Reveles’ request to be reinstated as the co-trustee. The outcome of this legal battle will determine the future management of Richard Simmons’ assets and ensure transparency and accountability in handling his estate.
As the intricacies of trust administration unfold, the public awaits further developments in the ongoing saga surrounding Richard Simmons’ estate. The case underscores the importance of meticulous planning and clear communication in estate management to honour the wishes and legacy of the departed.
