Princess Charlotte seems to be following in her mother’s musical footsteps, as Prince William recently shared his children’s interest in music during a royal outing. The Duke of Cambridge, 43, highlighted the importance of music education for his kids while visiting Spiral Skills, a youth group in Lambeth. This organisation, funded by the Homewards Fund as part of William’s campaign to reduce homelessness across the U.K., received a grant to expand its services for young people in the area. During the visit to The Oasis Village in Tulse Hill, William mentioned that his children, Prince George (12), Princess Charlotte (10), and Prince Louis (7), have shown a keen interest in music.

According to reports from Hello! magazine, Prince William declined an invitation to play the drums at Spiral Skills but joked that Prince Louis would be more suited for the task. He expressed his own regrets about not starting music at a younger age and emphasised the value of his children having a musical education. The Duke mentioned that he played the piano, trumpet, and drums in the past but struggled because he couldn’t read music. He highlighted the importance of music in his life and stressed the significance of his children learning music as well.
During his engagement at Spiral Skills, Prince William also shared anecdotes about his children’s musical pursuits. He revealed that Prince Louis was learning to play the drums, causing him to humorously complain about the noise levels at home. Additionally, Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, mentioned that Prince George had been taking electric guitar lessons, while Princess Charlotte had been practising the piano. The royal couple has been actively encouraging their children to explore and develop their musical abilities.
Kate Middleton’s own musical talents came to light during a surprise performance at the Together at Christmas carol service in December 2021. The Duchess, 43, who learned to play the piano as a child, joined singer Tom Walker on stage for a rendition of “For Those Who Can’t Be Here.” Her piano skills were further showcased in 2023 when she contributed a short performance to the opening sequence film of the Eurovision Song Contest. Music has been a source of comfort and expression for Kate during challenging times, such as the COVID-19 pandemic.
It is evident that music holds a special place in the Cambridge family, with each member exploring different instruments and genres. Prince William’s support for his children’s musical endeavours reflects a broader commitment to arts education and personal growth. As the next generation of the royal family, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis are embracing creative pursuits under the guidance of their parents. With their diverse musical interests and talents, the young royals are establishing themselves as budding musicians within the royal household.
The Cambridge family’s passion for music is not only a personal pursuit but also a way to connect with others and uplift spirits during challenging times. Through their participation in musical events and engagement with the arts community, Prince William, Kate Middleton, and their children are fostering a love for music that transcends generations. As Princess Charlotte takes after her mother’s musical skills and Prince Louis explores the drums, the Cambridge family continues to embody a rich tradition of cultural appreciation and creative expression.
