Henry Winkler, the acclaimed actor best known for his role in ‘Happy Days’, recently shared his joy for his long-time friend and former co-star Ron Howard. Howard received his first-ever acting Emmy nomination in July for his performance in ‘The Studio’, prompting Winkler to make a heartfelt call to congratulate him on his well-deserved achievement.

In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE at the 27th Television Academy Hall of Fame Ceremony in Los Angeles, Winkler expressed his excitement over Howard’s nomination, stating, “I called him immediately. He was so excited.” The two actors have maintained a close friendship for over five decades since their time working together on the iconic television series ‘Happy Days’.
Winkler also revealed that Howard had discussed his role in ‘The Studio’ with him, expressing his enthusiasm for the project and his commitment to giving it his all. When asked about the possibility of making a cameo appearance on the show, Winkler responded enthusiastically, declaring that he would do it without hesitation and praising the series as “a great show”.
‘The Studio’, a satirical comedy about the Hollywood industry, has already attracted a star-studded lineup of guest appearances, including the likes of Martin Scorsese, Anthony Mackie, Zöe Kravitz, and Dave Franco, all of whom received Emmy nominations for their roles. With such high-caliber talent involved, Howard’s Emmy nomination as an actor marks a significant milestone in his extensive career as a producer and director.
Winkler and Howard rose to fame together on the beloved sitcom ‘Happy Days’, which aired for 11 successful seasons from 1974 to 1984. Howard portrayed the wholesome protagonist Richie Cunningham, while Winkler captivated audiences with his portrayal of the iconic character Arthur “Fonzie” Fonzarelli. The enduring bond between the two actors was evident when they shared the stage in a nostalgic reunion at the 2024 Emmys.
Reflecting on their enduring friendship, Winkler fondly recalled the moment he reunited with Howard at the award show, saying, “It was like we had just been on the set a minute ago. Oh my God, I love him very much.” Howard, in turn, expressed his amusement at being recognised for his acting prowess, describing his character in ‘The Studio’ as an exaggerated version of himself.
‘The Studio’ features Seth Rogen in the lead role as Matt Remick, offering a satirical take on the inner workings of a troubled movie studio. Howard’s guest appearance in the series showcased his versatility as an actor, drawing both laughter and poignant moments from viewers.
As the anticipation builds for the 2025 Emmys, where Howard’s nomination will be celebrated alongside other talented performers, fans eagerly await the opportunity to see these distinguished actors come together once again on-screen. The ceremony is set to air live on Sunday, Sept. 14 on CBS, promising an evening of excitement and recognition for the best in television talent.
