In a distressing turn of events, two children have gone missing in Los Angeles County, suspected of being abducted by their father, as reported by the police. The two missing children, Aastha Vides, aged 8, and Juaquin Vides Jr., aged 11, have prompted an urgent plea for assistance from law enforcement in locating them. The children were last seen with their father, Juaquin Vides Sr., on August 8 at around 6 p.m. local time on the 1000 block of W. 88th Street in the unincorporated area of Los Angeles.

Authorities, both the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) and the South Los Angeles Station, released a bulletin on social media urging the public to come forward with any information that could help find the missing children. The case has been labelled as a “parental abduction,” shedding light on the urgency of the situation. The bulletin identified the father, aged 35, as a suspect and indicated that he is “deaf/mute.”
The missing trio was last seen driving a green 2012 Mazda2 with the California license plate 9DRV087, according to the bulletin. Another suspect, Sylvia Gonzalez, aged 53, was observed driving the vehicle as well. Despite this, the exact relationship between Gonzalez and the children’s father remains unclear. Law enforcement has reason to believe that the potential destination for the group may lie within the city of San Jose.
The family has expressed deep concerns for the well-being of the missing children and is seeking the public’s help in locating them. Aastha Vides and Juaquin Vides Jr. have distinctive physical characteristics that could aid in their identification. Both children have black hair and brown eyes, with Aastha also bearing a birthmark on her left foot.
For those providing assistance, it’s crucial to note that Juaquin Sr. is 5 feet 5 inches tall, weighs 220 lbs, and has brown hair and brown eyes. Sylvia Gonzalez, on the other hand, stands at 5 feet 1 inch, weighs 233 lbs, and features gray hair with hazel eyes. The LASD is actively investigating the case but did not respond immediately to further inquiries. The situation remains fluid, with the urgency to locate the missing children growing by the minute. The community’s support and vigilance are paramount in ensuring the safe return of Aastha Vides and Juaquin Vides Jr. as authorities work tirelessly to bring them back to safety.
