e.l.f. Cosmetics recently made waves by championing the fusion of beauty and empowerment at a significant event in New York City. The brand stood in solidarity with astronaut Amanda Nguyen, providing support at a historic gathering held at the United Nations on Tuesday, February 11. The event was a tribute to women in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), aiming to inspire the upcoming generation of trailblazers. The occasion, titled the 10th Annual International Day of Women and Girls in Science: Uplifting Women in STEM, was organised by the Lady Astronaut Society, RISE Now, the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Poland to the UN, and the UN Secretary General’s Spotlight Initiative.

This landmark event marked the first time female astronauts, both past and present, were celebrated, underscoring the pivotal role women play in STEM fields. Amanda Nguyen, an advocate for equality and a future Vietnamese astronaut, headlined the event. She was joined by scientist and equality champion Bill Nye, as well as NFL star, actor, and activist Terry Crews. The collaboration between e.l.f. and Amanda Nguyen showcased their commitment to inspiring positivity, inclusivity, and accessibility through a new film series called Show Your(s)e.l.f. Past episodes have featured inspiring figures like singer-songwriter Viktoria Modesta, swimmer Anastasia Pagonis, and actor Chella Man.
In her appearance on the series, Amanda Nguyen shared her journey to becoming an astronaut and breaking barriers in STEM. She also highlighted how makeup, especially her go-to $9 red lipstick (e.l.f.’s O Face Satin Lipstick in the shade No Regrets), boosts her confidence. As a survivor of sexual assault, Nguyen founded Rise in 2014, a non-profit organisation dedicated to supporting survivors of gender-based violence. She expressed, “When I fight for survivors’ rights or reach for the stars as an astronaut, I’m reminded that no dream is too big.”
The e.l.f. Beauty event at the United Nations General Assembly Hall allowed attendees to engage with e.l.f. makeup products, further highlighting the brand’s commitment to female empowerment. Bill Nye, Amanda Nguyen, and Terry Crews came together to uplift female astronauts and advocate for gender equality in STEM fields. Throughout the hall, signs reading “uplift women in STEM” served as a powerful visual reminder of the event’s mission.
The event also showcased an array of e.l.f. lipstick shades, demonstrating the brand’s dedication to celebrating beauty in all its forms. Female astronauts, including Amanda Nguyen, united at the UN, embodying the spirit of empowerment and breaking barriers in traditionally male-dominated fields. An e.l.f. campaign played within the General Assembly Hall, encapsulating the essence of the event and inspiring attendees to embrace their own unique strengths.
The collaboration between e.l.f. and Amanda Nguyen signifies a significant step towards fostering a more inclusive and empowering environment for women in STEM. By celebrating female astronauts and advocating for gender equality, the event at the United Nations serves as a beacon of hope for aspiring changemakers. As the world continues to strive for gender equality and empowerment, initiatives like these play a crucial role in paving the way for a more diverse and inclusive future in STEM fields.
