22 Dogs Rescued from Alleged Dogfighting Operations in Indiana amid High Temperatures

In a heart-wrenching rescue operation, twenty-two dogs were saved from alleged dogfighting operations in Indiana with temperatures soaring up to 110 degrees on July 29. The dogs were discovered in distressing conditions, prompting a swift response from authorities and animal welfare organisations.
The rescue mission took place in Fort Wayne, where search and seizure warrants were carried out at two properties by the Fort Wayne Police Department (FWPD), the Indiana Gaming Commission, and Fort Wayne Animal Care and Control. The dogs were found suffering in extreme heat without access to water, some displaying significant scarring indicative of dogfighting.
At the first location, responders were shocked to find dogs confined in unsanitary cages and hutches, with many visibly struggling in the sweltering heat. Additionally, a shed containing equipment typically used for dogfighting, such as treadmills and restraining stands, was uncovered, shedding light on the cruel practices taking place.
The situation was no better at the second property, where dogs were found tethered outdoors with inadequate shelter, some afflicted with flystrike – a severe condition caused by flies laying eggs on animals. Disturbingly, veterinarians noted blood spatter on the basement walls, indicating violent encounters endured by these innocent animals.
Samantha Chapman, the Indiana state director of the Humane World for Animals, expressed disbelief at the horrendous conditions the dogs were subjected to. Despite the suffering they endured, the dogs showed resilience by welcoming their rescuers with wagging tails and hopeful eyes, inspiring compassion and determination to provide them with a chance at a better life.
Following their rescue, the dogs were relocated to a secure facility where they are receiving essential care and treatment. Humane World for Animals continues to monitor their progress and well-being, ensuring that they are given the support they need to heal from their traumatic past and prepare for a brighter future.
