Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi have recently made headlines with their decision to list their U.K. farmhouse for $30 million. Despite this move, the celebrity couple is not bidding farewell to the English countryside just yet. The pair relocated to England from the U.S. in 2024 and quickly settled into their Cotswolds estate. However, their decision to sell the farmhouse after just one month of living in it was driven by the need for more space for their beloved animals.

In a statement to The Wall Street Journal, DeGeneres explained that Portia de Rossi couldn’t be without her horses and they required a property with horse facilities and pastures. The couple has already transitioned to a larger and more modern home in the area to cater to de Rossi’s animals, complete with spacious land reminiscent of a Malibu property, according to listing agent Andrew Barnes of Sotheby’s International Realty.

This move comes as part of a series of significant property transactions by the couple. In August 2024, it was reported that they had sold their Carpinteria home in California for a staggering $96 million. In March 2025, another one of their U.S. properties, located in West Hollywood, was sold for $5.2 million. These sales have fuelled speculation about whether DeGeneres and de Rossi still retain any properties in the United States.

The decision to relocate to the U.K. was influenced by the aftermath of the 2024 presidential election. DeGeneres cited Donald Trump’s victory as a factor in their move and expressed her contentment with the lifestyle in England. The tranquillity of the English countryside, along with a simpler way of life, has resonated with the couple. DeGeneres shared how the timing of their relocation, right before the election, reinforced their resolve to make England their new home.
DeGeneres has long had a passion for real estate, having bought and sold over 50 houses in Southern California. Her approach to house flipping involves restoring historic and special properties rather than opting for new construction. This unique perspective has garnered praise and admiration from experts in the real estate industry, underlining her keen eye for distinctive properties and her commitment to preserving their character.
As the couple embarks on this new chapter in the U.K., it remains to be seen what the future holds for them. With their latest property listing making waves in the media, Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi continue to capture the public’s interest with their ventures in the world of real estate. Their story serves as a testament to their entrepreneurial spirit and their unwavering pursuit of creating homes that reflect their unique vision and values.
