1 Dead, 2 Missing After Group Swept Over Oregon Waterfall

A tragic incident unfolded in Oregon as one person died and two others went missing after a group was swept over Dillon Falls on the Deschutes River. The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) launched a search and rescue operation following the harrowing event on Saturday, July 19.
According to the DCSO, emergency responders received a distress call around 2:57 p.m. local time, reporting that a group of six individuals had been swept over the waterfall. The ensuing multi-agency operation aimed to locate and assist the individuals involved in the incident that occurred west of Bend.
Three individuals were successfully rescued from the river and taken to St. Charles-Bend for treatment. Regrettably, one person was pronounced dead at the scene, while two individuals remain unaccounted for. The DCSO, along with Bend Fire & Rescue and Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue (SAR) teams, conducted an exhaustive search effort.
Throughout the evening, rescue crews intensified their recovery mission and committed to continue their efforts until sunset. In the event of unsuccessful searches at night, operations were scheduled to pause temporarily and resume the following morning in the ongoing bid to locate the missing individuals.
