Kayem Foods has issued a recall for over 24,000 pounds of chicken sausage due to the potential presence of plastic pieces. The recall was initiated on July 17 after reports from three consumers who found white pieces of plastic in the sausages.

The affected product is the “ALL NATURAL al fresco CHICKEN SAUSAGE SWEET APPLE with Vermont made syrup” produced by Kayem Foods. The recall specifically pertains to 11-ounce vacuum-sealed containers containing four sausages, identified by lot code 179 and establishment number P-7839, with a use/freeze by date of Oct. 1, 2025.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) issued the announcement regarding the recall, citing concerns over potential contamination with foreign material. While there have been no reported injuries or health issues linked to the consumption of the recalled sausage as of July 17, Kayem Foods advised individuals who have consumed the product and are worried about potential injury to consult a healthcare professional.
Consumers who have purchased the affected product are advised to either dispose of it or return it to the store where it was bought. For any inquiries or assistance related to the recall, individuals can contact the USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline at 888-674-6854 or via email at MPHotline@usda.gov.
Recalls like these serve as a reminder of the importance of food safety and the vigilance required in ensuring the products we consume are free from contamination. The swift response from Kayem Foods in addressing the issue and initiating the recall demonstrates a commitment to consumer well-being and product quality.
The incident also highlights the role of regulatory bodies such as the FSIS in monitoring food safety standards and taking action to prevent potential health risks to the public. Initiating recalls promptly and transparently is crucial in maintaining trust and confidence in food producers and regulatory agencies.
As consumers, it is essential to stay informed about product recalls and to act swiftly if we have purchased any recalled items. By following recommended guidelines and being proactive in checking product information, we can contribute to a safer and healthier food environment for everyone. Remember, food safety is a collective responsibility that requires cooperation between producers, regulators, and consumers.
