The Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office revealed that on the morning of July 11, Muhammad was sent home by Harris before her shift ended. However, Muhammad reportedly returned to the McDonald’s through the employee entrance donning a mask and proceeded to stab Harris multiple times in a premeditated manner.

During the attack, a drive-thru customer attempted to intervene by firing his legal weapon through the window in an effort to halt the stabbing. Despite the customer’s brave actions, Muhammad managed to escape to her car. The customer followed her and managed to hold her at gunpoint until law enforcement arrived at the scene.
Jennifer Harris, the victim in this tragic incident, was a 39-year-old mother of six who had dedicated 15 years of her life working at McDonald’s. The prosecutor’s office raised concerns over the increasing trend of resorting to violence as a response to conflicts, highlighting the pressing need to find peaceful resolutions to disagreements.
In a touching display of solidarity and remembrance, hundreds of people gathered outside the McDonald’s to release balloons in honour of Jennifer Harris. Her daughter, Anttenisha Griffin, expressed the profound pain of losing her mother, stating, “It hurts so bad that my mama is not here.”
To support Harris’ six children in the wake of this devastating loss, a GoFundMe campaign was initiated by Divine Restoration Ministries in Detroit in collaboration with Harris’ family. The fund aims to carry forward Jennifer’s legacy of strength, compassion, and dedication by providing for her children’s educational and personal development needs.
Afeni Badu Muhammad has been charged with first-degree premeditated murder and carrying a dangerous weapon with unlawful intent. Her bond has been set at $25 million, and she is scheduled to appear before a judge on July 23. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the repercussions of resorting to violence in resolving conflicts, leaving a community mourning the loss of a beloved mother, manager, and colleague.
As the case unfolds, it underscores the importance of seeking peaceful solutions and addressing conflicts through dialogue and understanding. The heartbreaking loss of Jennifer Harris has sparked an outpouring of support and calls for justice, prompting reflections on the need for compassion and empathy in navigating disputes within our communities.
