Hiking Tragedy Strikes North Carolina as Second Waterfall Death Reported Within a Week

A heartbreaking incident unfolded at a North Carolina waterfall, leading to the tragic death of a hiker just one week after another fatal incident in the same state. The victim, identified as 29-year-old Astrid Angelina Madrid Ticas, lost her life after falling approximately 75 to 100 feet at Big Bradley Falls in Saluda, as per a news release from Polk County on Monday, July 14.


According to reports, emergency services were alerted to the accident on Sunday, July 13, around 1:30 p.m. local time. Responders from Saluda Fire and Rescue, Mill Spring Fire Department, Polk County EMS, Polk County Emergency Management, and the Polk County Sheriff’s Office rushed to the scene at the Big Bradley Falls Trailhead on Holbert Cove Rd.
Tragically, despite the efforts of the emergency crews, Ticas succumbed to her injuries at the scene, prompting a recovery operation to retrieve her body. The county extended its heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones of the victim, emphasizing the importance of safety while visiting natural areas and trails to prevent such devastating accidents.
