A new flood warning has been issued for parts of Kerr County, Texas, following the devastating floods that hit the area on the Fourth of July. The Kerrville Police Department issued a flash flood warning on the morning of July 13, which was later downgraded to a flood watch, alerting residents to the potential danger posed by the rising waters.
The warning came as the community continues to recover from the catastrophic flooding that occurred earlier in the month. The Guadalupe River overflowed following flash floods on July 4, causing significant damage and loss of life in the area.

In response to the new flood threat, the Kerrville Police Department suspended ground search operations and urged all search teams to evacuate the river corridor. The department emphasised the high risk of a flash flood and warned volunteer search parties to take the necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
Following heavy rainfall in Kerrville, State Highway 39 was closed to all but first responders and residents to prevent any unnecessary risks. The US National Weather Service Austin-San Antonio Texas reported that 2 to 4 inches of rainfall per hour were possible in the area, raising concerns about further flooding.

Despite the initial flash flood warning, which was issued at 9:13 a.m. local time, searches were reinstated as the flood watch remained in effect until 7 p.m. The Kerrville Police Department continued to urge residents to stay vigilant and avoid driving into floodwaters, prioritising safety above all else.
Tragically, the death toll from the July 4 floods continues to rise, with at least 129 people confirmed dead as of July 11. Kerr County has been one of the hardest-hit areas, with over 100 fatalities reported in the region. Among the casualties were campers and counselors at Camp Mystic, a site near the Guadalupe River, where 27 individuals lost their lives.
Efforts to support the victims and aid in the recovery process are ongoing, as the community grapples with the aftermath of the natural disaster. The Kerrville Police Department and local authorities remain vigilant as they monitor the situation and provide updates to residents in the affected areas.
As Texas faces the challenges posed by the recent flooding, solidarity and support from the community are crucial in rebuilding and healing from the devastation. The resilience and strength of the people affected by the floods serve as a testament to their determination in overcoming adversity and coming together in times of crisis.
