The crash took place at approximately 2:15 PM at the intersection of Allerton Avenue and Holland Avenue, where an 81-year-old man driving a Mercedes-Benz C300 reportedly sped through the crosswalk, striking pedestrians and subsequently colliding with three parked vehicles.
The tragic accident claimed the lives of Angel Johnson, aged 39, and Robin Kennedy, aged 57, both residents of the Bronx. Emergency responders arrived to find four pedestrians seriously injured, with three victims rendered “unconscious and unresponsive” due to significant head and body trauma.

According to police, the driver initially hit Johnson as she crossed at the eastern crosswalk, then continued to collide with Kennedy and two other women – aged 60 and 84 – who were in the western crosswalk. As the Mercedes crashed into other vehicles, the resulting chaos further injured innocent bystanders. Witnesses described harrowing scenes, with many pedestrians caught up in the mayhem as cars were rear-ended.

One witness recounted the horrific nature of the accident, stating, “I saw multiple people get hit by a car, and it was horrific,” highlighting the widespread panic that ensued. Emergency medical personnel transported a total of nine individuals to Jacobi Medical Center for treatment. While Johnson and Kennedy were pronounced dead at the hospital, the other injured pedestrians, including the 84-year-old woman, remained in critical condition. The 60-year-old woman was reported to be stable.
The elderly driver and his 84-year-old female passenger were also treated for their injuries and were reported to be in stable condition. Similarly, the drivers of the other three vehicles involved—aged 55, 61, and 71—are in stable condition as well.
Local resident Abdul Titumir, who recognised Johnson as a dear friend, lamented the tragic loss. “She’d always walk around the neighbourhood, say hello to everybody. So friendly,” he shared, emphasising her friendly disposition and the void her absence would create in the community.
The impact of the crash was not limited to human victims; the force of the collision also resulted in shattered windows of nearby businesses, further underscoring the incident’s severity. Witnesses remarked on the chaos and confusion that followed the smash, with one bystander describing the experience as “traumatizing” and unlike anything he had encountered in his 35 years in the neighbourhood.
Currently, no charges have been filed against the driver, and the New York Police Department’s Highway District Collision Investigation Squad is carrying out a thorough investigation into the incident. As the community mourns the loss of two lives and the injuries sustained by others, it serves as a chilling reminder of the potential consequences of reckless driving.
As residents come to terms with the tragedy, they are left grappling with the repercussions not only for the families affected but for the broader community that has suffered a significant loss.
