Madison Sisson has become an internet sensation, not for fame or fortune, but for her unwavering strength and dedication in raising her two sons, Ryker and Rhett, who were born with a rare immune disorder known as leukocyte adhesion deficiency (LAD syndrome). Madison herself was diagnosed with this condition at just 9 months old, alongside being born with only four fingers on her left hand. Despite these challenges, Madison’s childhood felt surprisingly normal.
At 19, Madison met Kane, her future husband, in Seattle. They shared dreams of building a life together and starting a family. However, genetic testing revealed a 50% chance of passing on LAD to their offspring. Despite this daunting reality, the couple decided to move forward with hope. Their resilience was tested when Madison, at 21, became pregnant with their first child, Ryker. During the pregnancy, doctors discovered that Ryker would be born missing his left arm, a characteristic likely linked to LAD.

Following Ryker’s birth, postnatal genetic testing confirmed his diagnosis of LAD – a moment that shook Madison and Kane. Determined to expand their family while mitigating the risk of passing on LAD, the couple began exploring in vitro fertilization (IVF) in early 2020. However, amidst the chaos of the COVID-19 pandemic, their plans were put on hold. Fate intervened when Madison unexpectedly became pregnant naturally with their second son, Rhett, who was also diagnosed with LAD after birth along with differences in both arms and being completely deaf.
The challenges the Sisson family faced did not deter their determination to empower their sons. Madison and Kane focused on celebrating their sons’ abilities rather than dwelling on their disabilities. Ryker, now 11, has exhibited remarkable adaptability in using his feet for various activities, inspiring the family to share their journey on social media, amassing nearly 46,000 followers. Videos of Ryker showcasing his skills, such as opening a car door or assisting in making burgers with his feet, have gone viral, challenging misconceptions about disabilities.
Despite the hurdles, the Sisson family remains resilient, with Madison and Kane supporting their sons’ independence and confidence. Ryker, attending public school and adapting to daily tasks with creative solutions, epitomizes strength and determination. Their youngest, Rhett, benefits from multiple therapy sessions weekly and started preschool for deaf and hard-of-hearing children. The boys’ bond strengthens them as Rhett looks up to his brother as a role model.
The family’s journey has been bolstered by an incredible support system, including loving family members. As they navigate societal perceptions, Madison aims to shift the narrative around disability, fostering understanding and appreciation for individual capabilities. Encouraging positivity and curiosity, she redirects negative stares or reactions into moments of fascination and learning.
Looking ahead, the Sisson family plans to continue sharing their story online, driven by the overwhelming love and encouragement they receive. Amidst the challenges, Madison, Kane, Ryker, and Rhett exemplify resilience, unity, and the unwavering belief in embracing individuality and overcoming obstacles with grace and determination. Their story serves as a beacon of hope, reminding us all of the power of unconditional love and unwavering perseverance in the face of adversity.
