NBA legend LeBron James recently shared his admiration for upcoming basketball prospect, Cooper Flagg, ahead of the 2025 NBA Draft. In a recent episode of his podcast, ‘Mind the Game,’ the Los Angeles Lakers star expressed his insights on the young talent poised to become the number one pick in the draft.
James, known for his keen eye for talent, commended Flagg’s ambition, stating, “I personally think that he wants to be great.” The 18-year-old standout from Duke University has impressed with his versatile skill set on the court, displaying prowess in various aspects of the game. James highlighted Flagg’s potential for growth, praising his ball-handling, shooting abilities, athleticism, and quick reflexes.
Expected to be the youngest player selected as the number one pick since James himself in 2003, Flagg’s talent has not gone unnoticed by the basketball icon. James acknowledged the advantageous position Flagg finds himself in, joining a team with established stars like Klay Thompson, Anthony Davis, and Kyrie Irving, under the leadership of Hall of Fame coach Jason Kidd.
Despite the Dallas Mavericks’ unexpected success in securing the top draft pick, with just a 1.8% chance of doing so, Flagg’s entry into the team marks a significant opportunity for the young player. The Mavericks, a recent NBA Finals contender, offer Flagg a supportive environment to further develop his skills alongside experienced and accomplished players.
Reflecting on his own career trajectory, James noted the challenges he faced early on with the Cleveland Cavaliers before reaching playoff success. In contrast, Flagg enters the league with a strong foundation provided by the seasoned Mavericks roster. James expressed optimism for Flagg’s future, foreseeing tremendous growth and success for the promising talent.
Known for his leadership and basketball acumen, James believes that the mentorship and guidance available within the Mavericks organisation will be instrumental in Flagg’s development. Surrounded by individuals with high basketball IQ and experience, Flagg is poised to make a significant impact within the team.
As Flagg prepares to embark on his NBA journey, the basketball world eagerly awaits his debut and the potential he holds to make a lasting impression.
