The South Kingstown Police Department announced that the remains washed ashore in Westerly on May 14, 2025, and have been identified as those of Eric Wein. Wein’s vehicle was first located in South Kingstown on April 10 and he was reported missing on April 18. The investigation, which has now concluded, involved collaboration between South Kingstown law enforcement, the Mansfield Police Department, and the Rhode Island Office of the State Medical Examiners.
Authorities stated that no foul play is suspected in this case and offered their condolences to Wein’s family and friends during this challenging time. Following the discovery, no further comments were provided by the Westerly Police Department and the Rhode Island Office of the State Medical Examiners.

In May, Westerly police officers had confirmed the discovery of what appeared to be a human leg bone in the Watch Hill neighborhood. The remains were discovered on Everett Avenue, with the investigation subsequently revealing no signs of foul play. The proximity of the scene to Taylor Swift’s mansion and the historic Ocean House in Watch Hill had locals surprised at the unusual occurrence.
Taylor Swift’s property in Watch Hill, known as “Holiday House,” is a 1920s estate overlooking East Beach and the Atlantic Ocean. The mansion was previously owned by Rebekah West Harkness and has been a venue for Swift’s renowned Fourth of July gatherings, featuring celebrity guests like Ed Sheeran and Gigi Hadid. Swift’s purchase of the property in 2013 for $17.75 million was widely reported.
Watch Hill is distinguished for its Victorian-style homes and the sense of privacy it offers residents, making it a sought-after location for those valuing exclusivity. The area’s charm and history attract both residents and visitors seeking a unique coastal experience.
The identification of the human remains found near Taylor Swift’s Rhode Island residence serves as a reminder of the unexpected events that can occur in even the most tranquil settings. The collaborative efforts of law enforcement and medical examiners underscore the importance of thorough investigations in such circumstances. While the community awaits further details, the focus remains on supporting the family of Eric Wein during this difficult time.
As details continue to emerge about this case, local residents and observers are reminded of the need for compassion and sensitivity towards all those affected by such incidents. The tranquil surroundings of Watch Hill may have been disrupted by this discovery, but the community’s resilience and unity will undoubtedly prevail in the face of adversity.
