It was there that she heard Walter Winchell using his characteristic lingo to announce her pregnancy. The shocking part? The radio broadcaster had been tipped off by a medical lab informant even before Ball and Arnaz themselves had been made aware.

The timing couldn’t have been more inconvenient, as Ball and Arnaz were performing in a physically demanding vaudeville act that required a lot from Ball. The couple had to cut short their tour plans after the revelation, but tragically, just a few weeks later, Ball suffered a miscarriage.

After the corrective procedure, Ball finally became pregnant at the age of 39 in 1950, giving birth to their first child, Lucie, via caesarean section on July 17, 1951.

The challenges did not end there for the couple, as Ball later gave birth to their second child, Desi Jr, in January 1953 amidst the filming of their iconic sitcom “I Love Lucy.” The show even incorporated Desi Jr’s birth into its storyline, making it a memorable moment for the audience.
