Renowned gymnast Simone Biles has been making waves with her latest venture, which is a departure from the world of gymnastics. The 28-year-old athlete recently took to Instagram to share a glimpse of her new business endeavour – a restaurant collaboration with The Playmakers Group located inside George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH). While the restaurant, named “Taste of Gold,” was initially announced by the Houston-based airport last September, Biles had not had the opportunity to visit it until now.
During her Instagram Stories documenting her trip to the Kentucky Derby, Biles excitedly shared a photo of herself standing in front of the restaurant. The image captured her beaming proudly in front of a wall bearing the inscription, “COMING SOON SIMONE BILES TASTE OF GOLD,” adorned with a painted flag and gymnast silhouettes. Although the restaurant marks a divergence from her gymnastics career, the name “Taste of Gold” serves as a nod to her accomplishments in the sport.
Following her impressive performance at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, where she clinched a total of eleven medals, including several golds, Biles continues to celebrate her success with this new culinary venture. Designed to honour Biles’s outstanding achievements on a global scale, Taste of Gold will feature a chef-crafted menu curated by industry innovator Mark Brezinski, promising to delight every traveler passing through the airport. Scheduled to be located in IAH Terminal A near Gate A8, the restaurant was initially slated to open in early 2025, with an updated opening date yet to be announced.
Expressing her enthusiasm for the partnership with The Playmakers Group, Biles shared in a press statement, “I am very excited to partner with The Playmakers Group and their dedicated team to help bring a new restaurant to my hometown airport.” Emphasising her passion for food, she added, “Our hope with Taste of Gold is to offer a beautiful dining experience that features award-winning, signature menu items with some of my favourite flavours sprinkled in for our guests.”
This latest endeavour adds to Biles’ list of accomplishments in recent months, following the conclusion of her Gold Over America Tour, her honeymoon with husband Jonathan Owens, and celebrating her 28th birthday.
