A former counselor at a private all-boys school in Cincinnati, Ohio, has pleaded guilty to charges of sexual battery after engaging in a sexual relationship with a student and sending him nude photos. Emily Nutley, aged 43, admitted to having sex with a 17-year-old student, including in her classroom after school hours. Nutley, a mother of three, continued to communicate with the student even after he expressed a desire to end the relationship, prosecutors revealed.

During court proceedings, it was disclosed that Nutley’s husband initiated divorce proceedings shortly after her arrest in 2024. The former head counselor at St. Xavier High School in Cincinnati found herself in legal trouble after being accused of engaging in an illicit sexual relationship with a teenage student. Nutley pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual battery just before her trial was set to begin, facing a potential prison sentence of up to ten years. Additionally, she will be included in the Ohio Sex Offender Registry following sentencing, as stated by the Hamilton County Prosecutor’s Office.

In a statement released upon Nutley’s indictment in October 2024, Hamilton County Prosecutor Melissa Powers emphasised the vulnerable position of the student involved, condemning Nutley’s actions as a betrayal of trust. Nutley had been the director of academic services at the prestigious all-boys high school, where she had worked as a counselor for 18 years. The offences took place during the fall semester of 2023, while Nutley was supervising a program aiding academically struggling students.

As per reports from the district attorney, Nutley initiated inappropriate contact with the victim outside of school hours, which included sending explicit messages and nude photographs. The relationship escalated to physical encounters, with Nutley engaging in sexual activities with the student both on and off school grounds. Despite the student’s attempts to end the interactions, Nutley persisted by contacting him through text messages.

Following the discovery of the inappropriate relationship, Nutley was promptly terminated from her position at the school in October 2024. Simultaneously, her husband filed for divorce. The sentencing hearing for Nutley has been scheduled for June 10, where she will learn the consequences of her criminal actions. Despite the serious nature of the charges against her, Nutley’s attorney has not yet responded to requests for comment on the case.
