A 74-year-old woman who had vanished after a casino trip was miraculously found alive three days later. Nancy Bloomquist was discovered stranded in a heavily wooded area, approximately 150 yards away from her burnt car, according to authorities.
Bloomquist’s brother, Steve Roelofs, revealed that his sister had suffered a concussion before heading to the casino. He believed that the concussion may have played a role in her disappearance. Roelofs described his sister as “lucky and tough” for surviving the ordeal.
The Northern Shores Police Department reported that Bloomquist had been reported missing under concerning circumstances after she was last seen travelling to the Little River Casino in Manistee on April 3. Surveillance footage captured her leaving the casino and driving southbound on US-31 in her white 2024 GMC Terrain.
The Mason County Sheriff’s Office announced that Bloomquist was found alive near a burned vehicle, lying next to a downed tree in a densely wooded area. Despite sustaining a concussion a day before, Bloomquist had decided against seeking medical attention and went about her normal activities.
Roelofs recounted filing a missing person report after Bloomquist failed to return from the casino. She was eventually located near her vehicle, after becoming lost in the woods and experiencing car trouble. Bloomquist had left her cell phone in the vehicle and sought shelter next to a tree during inclement weather.
According to authorities, Bloomquist remained stranded in the woods until she was discovered by deputies on Sunday evening. Roelofs emphasised the importance of seeking medical help after a concussion, urging others to take immediate action if a loved one shows signs of head trauma.
